An alternative game strategy to running your opponent out of life is running him or her out of cards. This approach uses slower, control-type decks, almost exclusively blue and white. When playing a blue-white control deck, you don't have to worry so much about your life. Even if you only have 1 life to your opponent's 100, once you have a lock, the game is over.
Auspicious Ancestor is made for these decks. At 2/3 power and toughness, it can handle most weenie creatures--plus you gain 3 life when it dies. This can give you the edge you need, since most quick decks are designed to deal 20 damage, not 23 or 26 damage.
