A "fixed" Black Lotus, this artifact can provide a quick three mana of any color. The cost is high, though: discarding your hand. Thus, this artifact is not so useful in the early game as its predecessor was. It's best to use Lion's Eye Diamond with cards like Elkin Bottle (which holds a card as if it were in your hand) or when you are holding no cards and want additional mana to "pump" an effect in play.
