Bwire the Barterer

"Bwire, the one who forced the panther to do his bidding, understood what every commander in every battle has understood since ancient times: the bigger the army, the swifter the victory. If only Bwire had lived in ancient times--I would enjoy telling tales of him much more!

"What is a sharp rock when you can have a sword? Bwire freed the panther not from the goodness of his heart--there is so little of that--but from greed. Another creature, a horrible feral shadow, had drawn his attention, and Bwire sought to control the shadow as he had controlled the panther.

"So the panther went her own way, her destiny her own--for the moment--and the shadow came instead to do Bwire's bidding. Which of these creatures would you rather hear about? The panther?

"Or perhaps the feral shadow?"
